Review of Summer Palace (2006) by Bin F — 30 Mar 2008
The film will have its critics and I can see why because at time the film is rather overplotted. But at the heart of this film is one of the most poignant studies into the ambivalance of human nature headed by the beautiful and gifted Hao Lei who gives one of the most memorable performances in years of a young charismatic but tempestuous heroine who struggles as much with the harsh realities around her as she does with the sheer paraodoxical nature of her inner self.
