Review of Summer of Sam (1999) by Nicholas R — 04 Jul 2009
I hated this movie the first time I saw it. But, after a year of film school, I think it's actually a masterpiece. In a way, this is Spike Lee's version of "The Conformist", but instead of fascists & communists, it's disco & punk - all outgrowths of the '70's culture.
Genius and underrated. Of course, if it takes a film degree to decipher, it's not really pop entertainment, is it?
