Review of Summer of 84 (2018) by Nathan R — 03 Sep 2018
Rear Window.
Disturbia (which is basically a remake of Rear Window).
It.
Stand By Me.
These all have something in common. Unsurprisingly, Summer of 84 hits every single note that these former films did, and did a worse job of it.
Nothing whatsoever about Summer of 84 is original, and maybe that's what I'm so upset about. I sat through almost two hours of a Hardy Boys version of a film I saw more than a decade ago. In a film where the antagonist is highlighted in crayon for those audience members too daft to pick up on the constant eerie music that played whenever he was present, you'd expect there to be a twist ending.
No, the villain is exactly who you think it is. Thrice during my viewing, I thought someone else might be identified as the bad guy because it would have been an interesting change in story, but no. You get exactly what you see.
In days, I will forget this garbage and hopefully move on to something new that doesn't rip off more talented storytellers.
