Review of Summer Catch (2001) by Jennifer K — 08 Mar 2009
Why do we watch movies? I would say there are several reasons why we do, like for example we watch them to escape from our everyday normal lives, or to see someone tell a story about something so amazing they just had to do a film about it, or to be entertained and saved from boredom, the reasons are endless.
This is where "Summer Catch" comes in, the story of local baseball player Ryan Dunne (Freddie Prinze Jr.) and his summer flirt 'butterface' Tenley Parrish (Jessica 'butterface' Biel) is a movie that has no reason to be a movie.
It's not entertaining, captivating, interesting, original or good. Who green lighted this? Who thought this was a story worth telling? I mean, if going to bed is more entertaining and 'thrilling' than a movie, it's not a good movie.
The only reason I watched this one was because the very talented Brittany Murphy is in it and is the only reason (together with someone wearing a Beastie Boys t-shirt) why this movie gets a whole star instead of a half.
