Review of Sully (2016) by Adam T — 03 Dec 2016
Clint Eastwood's 'Sully' (2016) is your standard biopic fare, just with a different narrative structure. I enjoyed the fact this film focused mostly on the aftermath of Chelsey Sullenberger's actions, occasionally adding the event into the narrative through flashbacks that in no way came across cheesy or forceful.
Acting was superb from the film's entire cast, with no role or character feeling wasteful. My problems with 'Sully' come from its filming conventions and its pacing. Most shots in this film are completely still, with no movement from the camera; feels very low energy for a drama full of tension.
The pacing of the film felt slow also; even though the film was only slightly over 90 minutes, the film felt like it was on for two hours. Overall, great performances, though the technical filmmaking shown was lacking.
