Review of Sully (2016) by Richardgonci — 06 Dec 2016
Many movie trailers begin with the hackneyed phrase: "In a world..." Well, in a world full of unreconstructed self-promoters of all stripes, Cap't. "Sully" Sullenberger was the real-deal.
.. not the art of the deal. To make an arresting movie, which is substantially focused on events after the fact of the incident, is another accomplishment. Now I have something better to celebrate from Clint Eastwood than his bizarro performance with an empty chair at the second to last RNC convention.
Once again Tom Hanks brings nuance and heart to the portrayal of a seeming "everyman," who is far and away above that. As he did, btw, in "Captain Phillips." This is probably not the best movie for people who hope that movies always have to mimic the pace of video games to be entertaining.
But, occasionally, life is about more than entertainment.
