Review of Sully (2016) by Greg A — 26 Dec 2016
Having quite enjoyed the film I decide to look up the transcript of the ATSB After seeing the film I read the transcript of the ATSB enquiry to discover to my complete dismay that I had been conned. Having read the thousand pages of the transcript of the enquiry there is no reference to Sully requesting 35 seconds interval for a response, the ATSB enquiry was courteous and non-critical of his behaviour, and it would appear that this film is somewhat similar to Amadeus where massive distortion of the character Salieri permeated the film, on the presumption of a rampant bureaucracy persecHuting a hero in this film is similarly totally inaccurate. In fact it was the ATSB that requested 35 seconds delay, and furthermore half the flight simulations failed to land the aircraft safely.
Unfortunately one must distinguish between the skill of a film director and the integrity of his scriptwriter. However fault in this situation is unable to be determined, but both should be held accountable for the gross misrepresentation of the ATSB and anybody leaving a viewing with the impression that the bureaucrats were totally unprofessional would be completely wrong.
