Review of Sully (2016) by Christopher M — 03 Feb 2017
I have been fascinated about The Right Stuff since my schoolboy memory of the first moon landing. Armstrong following a computer failure and rapidly running our of fuel took manual control and eyeballed a successful landing from about 40m .
The true story here of the lowest ever engine failure and successful aquatic landing saving 155 lives literally blows Armstrong's efforts out of the water. Clint Eastwood almost ruins the film with focusing throughout on the inquiry into Sullys actions, with an inhumane and unconvincing pantomime of airline investigators getting almost carnal pleasure out of trying to prove the pilot needlessly destroyed the plane on landing.
Luckily, the antiTrump Tom Hanks saves the day and the film. A must watch, and a real story of true heroism. We need more of this Right Stuff, these days.
