Review of Sully (2016) by Ross B — 27 Jul 2017
There are some real stories that just seem to perfect to be true; to be fit for a movie adaptation. None are probably more suitable than the story of Chester "Sully" Sullenberger landing an engine-less plane filled with passengers onto the Hudson River in New York City with no casualties.
However, Director Clint Eastwood (Invictus, American Sniper) doesn't waste his time spending 90 minutes showing a 208-second event. He instead focuses on the aftermath of the landing, the emotional struggles experienced by Sully (played brilliantly by Tom Hanks) and his co-pilot, and the subsequent NTSB investigation on whether he made the right choice.
Tom Hanks will definitely be considered for an Oscar nomination after his performance, as he completely steps into the skin of Sullenberger. Hanks is the only major actor that can still make me forget who he is every time, and that's no small feat.
The story is gripping and makes a story many know of feel unpredictable, and it keeps you concentrating and pondering throughout the entire film. Sully is a great movie that will for sure at least get Oscar noms at the very least, and is absolutely worth checking out.
