Review of Sullivan's Travels (1941) by Jared L — 06 Jan 2008
While I appreciate the message on the value of humor, this film otherwise is pretty empty. Sullivan continually tries to step into the shoes of an impoverished man until he accidentally gets it right. It has a few rare moments of humor and some good commentary, but not much.
I harbor a lot of doubt as to whether the film's message still holds true today as we have essentially entertained ourselves to death. Is this one of the 100 greatest American films? Not by a long, long way.
