Review of Sullivan's Travels (1941) by Roberto N — 26 Dec 2008
A masterpiece of the genre, by the great Preston Sturgess. It starts as another screwball comedy and then it has a deep change where we get to see the best and the worst of the human kind. Many layers of depth in this work of a genious director, who was one of the first to write and direct his own work.
Veronica Lake shines, Joel McCrea also plays the character well, especially in the second act. A movie critic once said he doesn't know how was possible that Preston Sturgess convinced the executives of the time to finance this film, for its acid critic of society and movies of the time.
I agree, it is a movie wasy ahead of its time that deserves appreciation and recognition.
