Review of Sullivan's Travels (1941) by Jeff M — 11 Aug 2007
This movie is at its best when Veronica Lake is in it and a bit lacking when she?s not. It tries for the ?comedy with a real message? thing. That message being that comedic movies are important b/c they give people joy and distraction from their lives.
It in part does this by showing a group of people eliciting hard forced laughter at a cartoon that is entertaining but really not the kind of thing people would laugh at in that way. The whole thing just comes off as strange and the movie losses a little at the end because of it.
