Review of Sullivan's Travels (1941) by A K — 25 Oct 2006
"Everybody needs a good laugh" pretty much sums up the American way of life, and the point this movie makes about entertainment in general I find to be pretty much dead on. Those who need, like, and appreciate "lowbrow" entertainment are those who are really living life on the front lines; those who protest the conditions of those who suffer, and think that life is too serious for us to laugh at it tend to be those who are living it up.
No other film in my memory so perfectly captures the American entertainment industry as this one.
