Review of Sukiyaki Western Django (2007) by Jon D — 07 Nov 2008
A fusion of Japanese samurai films and old American western, with some modernism. It's visually and conceptually well done, although it lacks depth story-wise. Both cultures were blended seamlessly, except that the English spoken in the movie sounded so forced, and somewhat annoying. Subtitles may be necessary.
The movie reminded me of Kurosawa's 'Yojimbo', although it wasn't as great. Everything felt like it's all been done before which made the action scenes not as exciting. Watch it just to see how they blended samurai and western movies together, that's probably the only reason one would remember this film.
