Review of Sukiyaki Western Django (2007) by Michael C — 13 Nov 2008
Very surprised how much I liked this film. Just by the trailer and the cover of the dvd case I thought it was weird and was going to be stupid. This film was far from that. You would not think that a Wild West pic in Japan was going to be good, but Miike actually made it work.
I liked the story and had a Kill Bill-ish feeling. Probably because the director was a Quentin Tarentino fan. Yet the setting and colors were very beautiful. Not to mention the filming and positioning.
The performances were of course outlandish but still what did you expect. Still for non-english speaking people, not bad. Kudos.
