Review of Sukiyaki Western Django (2007) by George K — 28 Nov 2008
Take equal parts Leone, Kurosawa, Suzuki, Looney Tunes, toss in a dash of ultraviolence and the laughably awful acting of Quentin Tarantino and you have a modern masterpiece. I felt that having the actors speaking English rather than Japanese was too distracting.
The colors were bright and beautiful and the story wasn't bad, although a different take on a fairly common Western-themed story. Personally, I liked the Tarantino cameo. However, though, I felt this fell short of other works I've seen by Takashi Miike, and was expecting more out of it.
