Review of Sukiyaki Western Django (2007) by Darian H — 04 Jan 2009
The action sequences are cool and indisputably badass, but they are far and few between in this disappointing disc, forged of pure disappointment and wasted potential. Everyone's dialogue sounds forced, with bizarre empahses that suggest none of the actors actually understand the English they're speaking.
Oddly enough, this includes guest actor Quentin Tarantino, who speaks it as a first language. The plot is explicitly ripped out of Henry VI, with aspects stolen from Romeo and Juliet. This essentially makes it Shakespeare in the Old West as imagined by some ill-informed Japanese filmmakers.
As awesome as this sounds, it's pretty much just a big mess of confusion, hard-to-follow dialogue, and boredom. Not even the occasional kickass fight could convince me to watch the entire thing.
