Review of Sukiyaki Western Django (2007) by James J — 17 Jan 2009
The title alone has me intrigued along with the Japanese actors adorning the cover art. A Japanese Western? My interest is peaked and I can't wait to get it home.
Now I have watched plenty of movies in my lifetime; some great, some really bad but I felt like I found the Holy Grail of foreign action films ever! This has everything yu could want: blood, lust, vilence, samurai swords, guns, explosions, hot Asian women and of course Quentin Tarantino. If you are a fan of his you know he makes appearances in his films and a fan of the Japanese film industry. This case is the latter and merely takes an acting position. I was floored when I saw his performance and influence in the beginning scenes of the telling of an epic battle between two clans. I won't divulge much else but it was the best 95 minutes I spent on a Saturday night in a long time.
Did I mention NO SUBTITLES! All dialogue is spoken English, no dubbing over.
