Review of Sukiyaki Western Django (2007) by Chris D — 23 Jan 2009
The latest film from controversial Japanese director Takashi Miike is a departure from his usual horror ("Audition") and yakuza ("Ichi the Killer") films. This time...a western. Yes, a western, featuring an all Japanese cast, a nonsensical plot, lots of gunfights and bullets flying, samurai swords, stunning cinematography and.
..Quentin Tarantino (in a cameo role)! Miike never does anything half-way (this is, after all, the only director invited to create an episode of Showtime's "Masters of Horror" series whose episode was banned), and this film is no exception.
Everything is over the top and action-packed. Watch it in the spirit in which it was made (fun) and you will be entertained.
