Review of Sukiyaki Western Django (2007) by Hayzeus R — 25 Mar 2009
This film's propensity to alternate between extreme goofiness and bleak seriousness is jarring and probably the main problem with this film. Japanese actors speak English without any attempts at an American accent, and sometiems I was actually wondering if the actors were going out of their ways to sound bad.
This and the multiple comical (sometimes cartoon-ish) scenes would work well if the entire film maintained this tone. But when the story starts to take itself too seriously and introduce some serious drama, I was left feeling confused.
Despite these flaws, the film manages to look good all the time and I have to give props for trying something unusual.
