Review of Sukiyaki Western Django (2007) by Manda C — 21 May 2009
Another variation on the tale of Yojimbo, this time from legendary J-Horror director Takashi Miike. Miike has taken every Western cliche in the book and thrown it into a blender with his own sense of style and violence.
The result is not for everybody, but worth a look for fans of six-gun action. The film is Sergio Leone on LSD. It's every revisionist western riff supersaturated in stylized bombast and a purposed perversion of the motion picture mannerism.
Far and away the finest section is the final showdown, smoothly and swiftly shot with excessive violence and gore.
