Review of Sukiyaki Western Django (2007) by Derrick D — 06 Jun 2009
First off, would not recommend this to the casual movie watcher. You're not going to like it. The action is highly stylized and shot very nicely. That been said, there are plenty of rough edges in this movie that kept me from really ejoying it.
First, the Japanese actors speaking in English thing was really annoying. I get what Miike is trying to do here, I just didn't like it. Second, Tarantino's acting is, as usual, horrid, but in a quirky sort of way this time.
Third, the second act of the story seriously lags, although the showdowns at the end make up for it nicely. Overall, this is a film geek's kinda movie. If you're a casual movie go-er and want to be bold, give it a shot, but remember my first sentence in this review.
