I watched this essentially without sound, and I'm fairly certain that didn't damage the overall viewing experience. That should tell you quite a bit.
Heavy on the kitsch and style over substance. The idea of mixing a samurai theme with a western theme is curious, but little more is done with it. Perhaps I'd have appreciated this movie more if I were better acquainted with the genres that it is paying homage to/ripping off.
