Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Dust O — 02 Jun 2017
First things first Suicide Squad is a bad movie. The script is nonsensical, the editing it's all over the place, the tone rapidly shifts like it's two different movies crammed together, the acting is generally cheesy, all while having little understanding of the source material.
At best it is along the lines of Michael Bay's Transformers. The characters have no real build up, and so a lot of the drama is pointless. Jared Leto's much hyped Joker performance was a huge misfire.
It feels like everyone on set knew it was a bad performance, but he was so into it that they felt bad to tell him. Margo's Harley Quinn isn't as bad as I had assumed, but than again there wasn't much there to judge her by.
Where the critics too harsh? Not really. Honestly maybe the movie should have gotten something closer to a 40%, but that really wouldn't suddenly make it good.
