Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Lee H — 18 Jul 2017
The "Love Hate War" between fans and critics still rages. I watched both the theater and extended releases again to see if I could glean why the gap in reviews. First the extended cut has details which fill in the continuity gaps missing the the theatrical release. That is an artistic flaw created by the studio's desire to have viewers purchase more versions after the initial release.
I like a good back story to flesh out how the characters arrived at their present day persona. Unlike some action fans I do not require things to be blown up every second of the film. This film has a plot which requires concentration as it freely flow between the past and the present.
It appears many are uncomfortable with graying lines between who is a hero or villain. This is one of the greatest features of the Suicide Squad. Each character can in an instant be good or bad. Ambiguity is the engine which has always driven the Squad stories. Sit back and enjoy the ride because there is good and bad in all of us.
