Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Henry W — 14 Feb 2018
I don't care what the critics say, the only opinion that matters is your own. This movie isn't Citizen Kane, but it's not supposed to be. It's a colourful, crazy, wild superhero film. It stays faithful to it's original comic book series and brings fresh new ideas to it too.
Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Will Smith are outstanding in this film. The chemistry between Leto and Robbie is mesmerising, as is the chemistry between the misfit group of thieves and maniacs which make up the Suicide Squad. The rest of the Squad are amazing too, Croc while hidden behind facial makeup looks amazing without needing CGI, Boomerang is a delightful scumbag played very well by Jai Courtney for once, and Jay Hernandez brings genuine humanity to El Diablo: a character scared and haunted by his abilities. The soundtrack of the movie alone is worth the price of admission.
To everyone slaying this film for being not like Marvel, let me ask you this; Would you really like to see a Marvel film solely focused on the villains?
It was funny, it was emotional, it was crazy, it was wild, it was ridiculous, it was everything I wanted it to be. Mr. Ayer, you've saved the DC cinematic universe by going back to what the intention should be before anything else; make a movie for the fans.
