Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Moviemitch96 — 07 Aug 2016
When what's supposed to be a fun action-packed comic book film nearly puts you to sleep multiple times towards the middle act, there's definitely a problem with the film. Sadly, this is the case with this film.
I really wanted to like this film, but the the story and its organization felt heavily disjointed and the humor was lacking and I never really found myself smiling or having too much fun with the film.
The actors all did a fine job with what they were given, with Will Smith and Margot Robbie being my two favorite standouts. However, the rest felt heavily cliched and Cara Delevingne's antagonist was especially cliche and cheesy.
And like I said before, the middle act really brought much of the action and story to an abrupt stop and became way too dialogue-focused to the point where it was making me doze off multiple times. And in all honesty, it felt like the film was trying really hard to be a Guardians of the Galaxy wannabe with the spunky and eccentric characters, as well as its classic soundtrack.
Sadly, it just didn't work for this film the way it did for Guardians. Overall, despite how exciting the film appeared, as well as its great potential, it fell rather short in all areas unfortunately.
I'm beginning to lose more and more faith with each passing DC film, as this one certainly didn't help.
