Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Jake A — 12 Jun 2017
Here was me thinking that Man of Steel was the modern DC film lowpoint but somehow this managed to be even worse. Firstly the narrative, script and plot are all shockingly bad. Just introduction after introduction which aren't done in a clever or inventive way as it literally feels like watching the foundations of the film being built as it progresses.
The humour is poor and feels utterly forced, all the characters lack any depth and the plot is utterly boring with a poor villain. The characters themselves not only lack depth but are largely useless when it comes to actually fighting (with only Deadshot and El Diablo proving to be genuinely useful) and though the cast portraying them is okay why anyone keeps giving roles to Jai Courtney is beyond me.
He is as bland as the visuals and plot which therefore means he is barely noticeable. The soundtrack is solid but feels utterly unnecessary and forced while trying to seemingly copy what Guardians of the Galaxy did but in a dumber way.
The score itself is forgettable, the action is largely boring but at least the film is shorter than other DC attempts which means the pain of watching this disaster of a film doesn't last long.
