Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by John A — 14 Mar 2017
I'm renaming this movie "Sternly Worded Looks.".
The dialogue is slow, clunky, and leaves too much air in the conversation. There are too many panning shots that confirm what we've already seen, and have been told. The action is ponderous, with too many scenes where the only thing the actors are doing is walking slowly. The plot is non-existent. I get what they were going for, but it's just tatters of a story. Once we get past the introduction, it all falls to pieces.
There are a few good character moments. For example, while Deadshot is mostly cliche in every way, Will Smith does bring some of his personality into it, making him more interesting and fun. Margot Robbie is the jewel of the film, hands down.
Leto's Joker, on the other hand, leaves me cold.
Everyone else was forgettable for me, and I became bored well before the halfway point. I held on only to see Margot Robbie, and Will Smith do their thing. If I had to describe the film in a word? That word would be "tedious.".
It's a shame, too, because I was really looking forward to this film.
