Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Gregory G — 11 Mar 2017
Suicide Squad is an entertaining, fun movie with tons of great acting. Margot Robbie predictably nails Harley Quinn and Will Smith is a pretty badass Deadshot. Jared Leto may divide people on his take on the Joker, but while it's not as good as Heath Ledger, it is a good portrayal in its own right.
The supporting cast rounds out with Jai Courtney being surprisingly entertaining as Captain Boomerang and Jay Hernandez as the caring El Diablo. Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman do fine jobs in there roles as well.
However, Cara Delevigne is a disappointing villain, not due to the performance, but because she didn't do that much, she just wasn't an imposing threat. Now while the performances are all ok to great, it doesn't save the movie from being a mess.
Questionable script choices and poor editing make this movie a convoluted experience that you can't help but feel like it's a let down. There is an amazing movie somewhere in here, but similar to Batman v.
Superman, the editing team and head guys at Warner Bros. seem to create an end result that's just too choppy to be considered as fantastic film. There's potential in Suicide Squad, and it brings hope to the future of DC movies, but you leave with a feeling it couldn't been a whole lot better.
