Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Jacob E — 10 Apr 2017
Personally, I have no idea what the critics are talking about with this one. It's a real head scratcher.
I think this may be a bias against the DCEU. I don't see where this movie lacks the formula that makes the MCU movies so good. I typically agree with the critics. In fact, I totally found Batman vs Superman to be a disappointment and a waste of time and money. And I found the Superman from Man of Steel to be far too brutal for someone intended to be a symbol of hope or beacon of light. But I think this movie distinguishes itself from the other DCEU movies by being more fun and less dark and dull. The tone and message of the movie are dark and Amanda Waller is a heartless bitch. But it still managed to be a fun movie that had me laughing from start to finish. That is exactly the Marvel formula critics praised, so something seems amiss with the rating here. This movie gets me excited for the DCEU and hopeful for the future of a franchise (DCEU)which I once thought was doomed. If DC wants to continue to grow they need to get rid of Zack Snyder. His tones and stories are too dark and his scripts too dull and drug out. Batman vs Superman was an over exaggerated, incredibly dull mess with not much substance about two superheroes fighting for a reason I'm not sure why to be quite honest. Suicide Squad managed to be a fun and exciting mess (in a good way) about bad guys fighting bad guys because they're forced to. Not to mention casting, the entire casting of Suicide Squad was amazing. Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevigne were great in their respective roles and Jared Leto managed to play a fantastic joker (no Heath ledger but then again who is). And he was definitely a better psycopathic villain then Jesse Eisenburg (but then agin who isn't). This movie managed to be a light and fun movie despite being about a team of bad guys forced to do good because they have bombs implanted in their necks! So I beg of you DC, DITCH ZACK SNYDER BEFORE ITS TOO LATE IT COULD SAVE THE FRANCHISE!
