Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Emile H — 28 Dec 2017
Is it a different kind of superhero movie? Of course it is. Does it get muddled and cliche as the movie goes on? Yeah, but so did my two favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe films and I still enjoyed them.
Same can be said here. My reasons of admiration for this whole movie stems from it feeling just like a graphic novel, twisting flashes of quirk and nihilism to make it all the more surreal. There are bursts of action that may not ramp up, but it's more about the ones caught in the mess and each are utilized well.
Many of the characters nail their comic counterparts, though for some it may take time for them to grow on you. In a way, the entire film is meant to be that kind of experience that over time will make it worth one ride, one we might never ride again.
