Review of Suicide Kings (1997) by Todd G — 12 Jul 2007
With an excellent cast and acting, this movie had a lot of potential. I don't know if the problem was the script or the direction, but the promise was never fully realized. The interplay between characters, their motivations, and their insecurities, along with the flashes of comedy made for a great viewing.
Ultimately though, there was not a substantial build up to the end, which clearly was meant to be built up. The chosen ending felt wrong, particularly the music. The ending didn't feel like it was part of the same movie, and this left me with a slightly bad taste in my mouth.
I would still recommend this movie. While the plot itself didn't live up, the characters did. In the special features Peter O'Fallon talks about the "reveal" like in "The Usual Suspects", but he clearly did not succeed if that's what he was trying to imitate.
Still, with Chris Walken you really can't lose.
