Review of Suicide Club (2001) by Familiar S — 02 Apr 2011
Well Suicide Club...Very disturbing and graphic film that depicts young girls and boys killing themselves but overall a very watchable film that tries to take it's self seriously sometimes.
But hay I can't deny I played Suicide Club at school once...But I was the one in the crowed saying jump...and she actually did...
In Tokyo, when fifty-four high-school students commit a collective suicide, jumping from a platform in Shinjuku Station and the train crushing them, the police force leaded by Detective Kuroda has no clue to follow. Then he receives an e-mail from a young woman, The Bat, advising that there is a site where red dots mean the number of persons that died. Kuroda and his team investigate the deaths going nowhere...Until.
Well my favourite parts in the film are the train scene with all the girls getting crushed by it or the scene where all the school kids jump from the building. Haha awesome story and characters they are confusing at most but the suicides are the best part but the ending is slightly a let down. The acting was pretty good but most times I didn't really like it. The music is pretty good nothing to argue about and the special effects are okay but the blood is what makes it.
Here are some facts I found.
The trailer features scenes from a subplot about the hospital security guard that had to be deleted due to time constraints.
Both Masatoshi Nagase and Akaji Maro were friends with Sion Sono before taking part in the movie.
Most of the teenage and child actors from the movie were first-timers.
Suicide Club was the first of Sion Sono's films to be released in the West.
The song "Dead" by Leak Bros features a sample of the suicide club leader Genesis's "Shine All Night Long Rong" and uses the same chorus.
Overall if you're a big fan of clubs or just kids killing themselves in general you might like this a lot and my final verdict is recommended.
