Review of Sugar (2010) by Joel D — 16 Jan 2011
This coming-of-age movie snuck up on me. It's a realistic tale of a Dominican baseball player who makes it to the United States minors system. It's interesting to watch as he attempts to adapt to the language and culture of a small town in Iowa.
Not to mention his struggle with the pressures of professional baseball. The story isn't pretty or easy, but it's beautifully authentic. It's a lower budget film and, at times, that shows by way of mediocre acting.
