Suffragette is an engaging, historically grounded story from the perspective of just one of the many factions of the UK women's suffrage movement, shining a rare spotlight on an immensely important part of history, one where many have forgotten about just how brutal the battle truly was.
That rebellion and retaliation to cruel and unjust indignities is captured through an appropriately gritty and muted lens and ably brought to life by a strong cast, headlined by Carey Mulligan's Maud, a transformative character arc that lends the film much of its fiery power.
