Review of Suffragette (2015) by Justine J — 15 Oct 2015
It's about time this movie got made. So refreshing that it looked at working women's struggle and not as usual just the upper class and privileged women. Mulligan and Bonham Carter are so eminently watchable and this long overdue treatment of the Suffragette movement scores highly with me.
Not entirely perfect - for example Emily Davison is never properly introduced as a character and we know nothing about her. Yet the film ends with her funeral rather than finishing with the viewpoint character.
An unusual choice and I'm not sure it really works that well as an ending. Leaving that aside, I can't stop applauding. Can we have more movies like this please.
