A bracing Tennessee William's melodrama about a crazed mother who wants her neice lobotomized for witnessing the death of her playboy son, who was a homosexual. Katherine Hepburn enunciates her role with flair; Elizabeth Taylor is stunning to look at and appropriately distracted.
Sadly, poor post-accident Montgomery Clift, who was as famous and adored as a young Tom Cruise back in his time, shambles through the movie like a walking corpse. Granted he was hopped up on painkillers at the time.
Apparently, Hepburn was so incensed by producer Sam Speigel and Director Joseph Makiewicz's treatment of Clift, she spat on them at the end of production. Isn't it cute how movie stars stick up for other movie stars? Aaaawwww.
