Review of Sudden Impact (1983) by Kevin H — 05 Apr 2009
Good ol' Clint. Steely eyed and tough as nails. I love the Dirty Harry movies. Even the ones that aren't that good. There's something about them, about watching Clint in them, that's entertaining even when it's not.
This is his first directorial stab at the Dirty Harry franchise and while it's not one of the better movies, it's not one of the worst either. It's got that same great humour and bad assedness (yeah I know, I made that up), and of course Clint doing what Clint does best. Unfortunately, it's also got some pretty slow bits and a so-so story, at times great, at others, not so. And what is it with the 70's and 80's and cheesy bad guys spouting ridiculously cheesball dialogue? This, the first Dirty Harry, Blade Runner and more, all brought way down by silly bad guys saying silly things.
Oh well. At least they're all properly dispatched of by the end of the flick.
