Review of Suburbicon (2017) by Anne L — 24 Oct 2017
Saw a preview last night and this is a relatively tough one to score, so I'm aiming middle of the road. I think some will love this for the message, some will like it for the dark humor, some will like it because they love Matt Damon or anything the Koen brothers do.
I found it uncomfortable, I found the humor a bit too dark and that people were laughing when I was feeling sad on multiple occasions. The acting is good, the setting is interesting. I found myself thinking about Blue Velvet and The Stepford Wives a bit.
Much of the movie became predictible, at least the last 2/3rds of it. The two sepererate but associated story lines were difficult to see the connection between and the movie didn't fully succeed in connecting them, IMO.
My vote would be to see it when it comes out on DVD as It's a pretty sure bet that unless you go by yourself, at least half of your group will not like it.
