Review of Suburbia (1984) by Andrew F — 21 May 2004
[font=Tahoma]As I'm flipping through Starz (I think), I happened to see SubUrbia is about to come on. I was intrigued by the name and the description, so I started to watch it. God, how I wish I hadn't.
Right off the bat, I'm subject to Steve Zahn in a hair net. Wooo. As the movie goes, it's apparent SubUrbia is trying to cash in on the Clerks style of "Young people hating life" theatre. And where Clerks was entertaining, this was not. While Clerks had a nice back and forth debate going throughout the movie (Dante and Randy) and very amusing as well, SubUrbia is just a bunch of go-nowhere 20 somethings spouting off and acting "cool" by either being blindingly pro-active (Amie Carey) or so annoyingly pesimistic it borders on nihilism (Giovanni Ribisi.) The worst thing was though, that Jeff (Giovanni Ribisi) was the only character I sort of liked for the first half-hour or so. Until I realized he's not skeptical in the real sort of way, he just feels there is no point to anything, and that apparently fast-food restaurants are a "mosh-pit of consumerism.".
I'm not going to claim I watched the whole movie though, because I didn't. I had to stop about half way through it.
And if you have doubts still about whether or not it's good, just take a nice gander at this quote from the movie. This is from a seen in which Sooze (Amie Carey) is showing the group her "performance piece.".

Also, I'm not going to go into Troy, other than it was horrible.
