Review of Suburban Commando (1991) by Christian T — 18 Apr 2009
Thinking back I don't see how I've watched this movie so many times in the past... Well, here's a little plot outline, Shep Ramsey (Hulk Hogan) is an extraterrestrial hero out to stop a baddie aiming for universal domination, Shep ends up stranded on Earth and must fit into society for a short duration of time until his ship is flyable again. During his stay on Earth he rents a room in the Wilcox family's house. Charlie Wilcox, the father (Christopher Lloyd) is a loser of sorts but with the aid of Shep throughout the course of the film, gains selfconfidence. All the while Shep has two dangerous alien bounty hunters hot on his trail.... EEK!
This movie is not to be taken seriously, and it never shoots for that either. The result is a lovable and fun movie that's great for the family or any movie-goer. My complaint's always been that Lloyd's character is downright, well.... Boring, and completely forgettable. Though when he's competing with the Hulkster himself for your favor, it's obvious who will win. Hogan's character is great and downright hilarious. Wonderful movie, great flick to watch if you enjoy family comedies.
