Review of Submergence (2018) by Sid D — 27 Apr 2018
Submergence utilizes his theme very well and creates a story around it, the ocean or simply water is in the center of this theme with all its glorious and majestic presence, the use of contrast between scenes is a very nice touch, but in all honesty, the film feels like it's lost within itself, If we take a closer look the love story is alright but everything that wraps around it is convoluted and baseless, It is obvious what the director was going for, an exploration of opposites which is a great premise only if used right, sadly, this can't be used to describe this movie.
The acting, on the other hand, is very good especially Alicia, who never seizes to amaze me with her incredible talent, the way she showcases emotion is breathtaking, you can feel her pain through a simple change of her face and that's beyond rare, amazing actress to say the least, James Macvoy also brings his refined acting to the table and boy it is a joy to watch.
Sadly, this film like many others fall victim to its own ambition, I won't call it bad nor good, it's somewhere in between, somewhere south of bad that it is.
