It is a legal requirement to say in every review that its directed by Richard Ayoade best known as Moss on â~The IT Crowdâ(TM)!
â~Submarineâ(TM) is a retro coming-of-age tale about a teenager shell-shocked by everyday life in 1980s Wales. The meat of the film and its bitter-sweet, beating heart is the awkward romance between Oliver and Jordana. Their pairing is cutting and cute.
The storytelling style which Ayoade lunges for is pure cinephile. Perhaps too much at times. Nothing stays still for long and actors are often seen in silence. Maybe thatâ(TM)s why I loved it.
