Review of Submarine (2011) by Bryony T — 17 Sep 2011
In many ways, this reminded me of Thumbsucker, but the two are rather distinct in many ways. I really wanted to have liked this more, but I did feel underwhelmed. I thought the performances were fantastic (most impressed with Yasmin Paige), the story was very quirky, strangely depressing and humorous at the same time.
The cinematography was purely sensational and the direction spot on. I loved parts of it intensely, but I didn't think the ending was very successful. For me, it could have been better. But it's still an absolutely charming and insanely off-beat coming-of-age film.
