Review of Submarine (2011) by David T — 11 Dec 2011
Submarine is a wonderful off-beat romantic comedy by debutante Richard Ayoade who is known for his TV work with hit series the IT Crowd and Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. I was really looking forward to this so it was such a thrill when it didn't disappoint. In fact, I watched it and then a day later watched it again which is quite a rare feat. I doubt it will be the last time I see this movie too - It's a bit of a pick-me-up film that you can go back to time and time again.
The plot is very simplistic - Boy meets Girl with intent on losing his virginity and all this while trying to prevent his parents marriage from falling apart. They capture school culture in all it's splendor.
A contender for movie of the year. And it also boosts a superb soundtrack from Alex Turner.
