The Wes Anderson comparisons are inevitable, but this was a good film. The aesthetics are Harold and Maude crossed with Rushmore, but there are shots in here more beautiful than either: Oliver's bed being swallowed by the ocean, Oliver and the red-jacketed Jordana crossing the screen on a bike seemingly propelled by fireworks, a really great zoom into a bowl of tapioca pudding.

The actual movie is a 15yo Welsh boy's love tale and the cast looks like real people - the girl is shaped in a way you would almost never see in an American teen movie, not fat, but dumpy in a non-round way.

Quirky, for sure, but not for its own sake, the reality is stylized in a way to make a point, about films (Oliver alludes a couple times to such as such being as if he was in a movie) and life.
