Review of Submarine (2011) by Neil P — 02 Oct 2012
The description of the film had me fearing this would be a British attempt at the likes of american pie/superbad. Thankfully it's much more "British" than that and what we get is a very charming, honest and incredibly funny film. Oliver is a great narrator and his views feel genuine for a teenage boy as are his worries about girls and his parent's marriage. A bit like a new "adrian mole" in many ways. Richard Ayoade shows he has far more versatility as a director/writer than he does as an actor.
Chock full of interesting and odd characters this is definitely a pleasant surprise.
