Review of Stuck on You (2003) by Forrest P — 17 Oct 2010

Forget about Stuck On You? So did I. I saw this about four years ago and since then I haven't thought much about it since. It's interesting to see two guys who I now know fairly well--Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting) and Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine)--appear in a sweet little film that was fine but didn't leave much of an impact at all.

I like going back to films that I haven't seen in awhile and see how well they hold up. For the most part, Stuck On You doesn't. It's not a bad film, it's just not that resonant. It has its moments--as most films do--but they never leave a great impact on the audience.

Here's what I do remember very distinctly about Stuck On You--it's very funny and has good heart where it counts. That's probably the best thing you could say about any movie. Greg Kinnear and Matt Damon have some great chemistry together and they manage to make the audience buy the fact that these two have been stuck on each other their whole lives. I also thought it was very clever what they did with the green screens and Damon's costume when Kinnear tries to become a Hollywood star.

Eva Mendes costars in this film in a role that I've practically forgotten about entirely. Needless to say she didn't stand out very much at all, which is always bad. I hate characters that don't have much of an impact on the audience, and she's one of them--especially when contrasted to the relationship of the twin brothers.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that Stuck On You is even better than I remember. It's worth a watch and is probably even a little underrated. It's got laughs, it's got heart, and is occasionally even a little clever.
