Review of Stroszek (1977) by Dan B — 03 Feb 2009
In The Enigma of Kasper Hauser, Bruno S. gives one of the most remarkable performances I've ever seen. After watching Stroszek, I have come to the conclusion that that was no performance - that's really what he's like.
Good ol' Herzog heads West and finds no respite from the bleakness of existence - just a dancing chicken. I'm told (thanks Sam & Phil) that this was the film Ian Curtis watched just before he killed himself.
Seems quite a sane response, as this is possibly the most depressing film I've ever seen.
